ADHD Cardiac Screening
Why is ADHD screening important?
Many medications used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are stimulants. It is recommended that children have a cardiac assessment including a clinical examination and an ECG before starting these medications to ensure their heart is healthy.
What does the screening involve?
The assessment involves a detailed clinical history, family history, and physical examination. In most cases, an ECG and an Echocardiogram are performed during the same visit.
