Exercise Stress Test

Exercise Test

What is an Exercise test?

An exercise test requires your child to either run on a treadmill or pedal a bicycle whilst their ECG and Blood Pressure are monitored. The test ends when the child is too tired to go on or when enough information has been gathered.

It is useful for evaluating chest pain, breathlessness, fainting, or heart rhythm problems that occur during physical activity.

Why is an Exercise test done?

It gives information about how the heart functions under stress and whether exercise triggers any abnormal rhythms or symptoms.

What happens during the test?

Your child will have ECG stickers on their chest and a blood pressure cuff on their arm. They will start walking on the treadmill, and the speed and incline will gradually increase.

How long does it take?

The total time is usually about 25-30 minutes, including setup and recovery.

Does it hurt?

No. It is just like exercising in a gym, although it can be tiring!
